Label Fair Flower Fair Plants is not Fair

Growers and wholesalers in flowers in Holland have been obliged by law, to pay a high percentage on the flowers sold to which is called: “Productschappen”. This organization decides for us, for us without  having a say to which organization they give us our money.

Fair Flower Fair Plants (FFP) is one of this organizations which gets our money. This organization has the opinion that there are employees who are used and growers must be controlled by FFP. But as we are content with our employees, nobody will make use of his employees! Besides every company has been controlled by the Dutch government. Every company in the Netherlands needs to comply with the CAO’s (Collective Wage Agreements).

So as we have to pay to FFP we pay for nothing. We better can give the money to our employees. Now the money goes to FFP.
For consumers the FFP-label is very confusing. They think that the flowers came from developing countries and it concerns Max Havelaar Fair Trade products. Their logo’s looks similar. Besides Max Havelaar guarantees the producers a fair price and FFP does not.

Consumers also can think that flowers without the FFP-label are not good.
But on the contrary, flowers without FFP-label just come from reliable Dutch growers. Reliability is the basis for durable relations and flowers. Dutch growers give, already for years, the most attention to their beautiful products.
So a fair trade mark for Dutch flowers is wasted money and it will unnecessarily increase the price of flowers.
